Tuesday Sep 15:
Tuesday we woke up from some beachside sleeping and checked out the campground as well as the beach. The campground is called Refugio.. we highly recommend it… Did we mention it was right by the beach? So beautiful.
Get ready kids.. this next story is definitely one of the biggest FAILS on this trip. One of my (Paige) stops on tour with IC was Hawaii.. I know, rough route, eh? Anyway, my team and I ate quite a few times at L&L which a local Hawaiian “fast food” joint. It was seriously awesome and we loved it. I’d noticed that SoCal has quite a few of them as well so David suggested we give it a shot for lunch that day. So we ordered some food and dug in.
Dear God. I cringe just typing about it. The food (which consisted of fish, rice, and macaroni salad.. ewww) progressively got worse and worse until we decided to call it quits and hit the road for Arroyo Grande. When we got in the car, we both felt like death was nearing. We weren’t sure which way L&L was going to exit our bodies but we knew it was coming soon.
Fast forward an hour later when it hit us both at literally the same moment. Wal-mart in random city we stopped in.. forgive us?
The moral of the story: Stay far away from L&L unless you’re in Hawaii.
Luckily, our day got better when we arrive in Arroyo Grande (yes, another place I stopped on tour with IC). We got to stay with the wonderful Peter Cunningham and his amazing parents. Seriously, the Cunninhams are some of the most generous, hospitable people I’ve ever met.
Peter took us to Pismo Beach for a bit and then David got to play an impromptu show in San Luis Obispo. We grabbed some yummy sandwiches from Peter’s favorite place and ended the night with some hang time in Peter’s awesome backyard, chatting with his parents, drinking beer on tap, and playing darts.
Wednesday Sep 16:
Sadly, we only got to stay one night in AG but we enjoyed a great night sleep, got some laundry done, and hit up the Village Grill before we hit the road. Thanks again to Peter and his parents for, as always, being awesome!
Wednesday was pretty much all driving but it was purely AMAZING views. We took the 1 up the coast.. Which is absolutely incredible. Everyone needs to do it, at least once in their lives. I have a ton of photos coming soon of that so keep your eyes peeled.
We made it to Carmel-By-The-Sea in time to take the 17 Mile Drive and check out the sunset. Seriously gorgeous. God never ceases to amaze me with his artistic touch.
After we grabbed some dinner, David and I hit the road again and had some wonderful conversation until we arrived in San Francisco.
P.S. Parking in San Fran BLOWS. We searched forever until we finally found one and then hiked back to our friend Rachel’s apartment where we crashed for the evening.
That’s all I can muster up for now. I’m almost all caught up.. just got to tell you guys about our stay in San Fran, the Redwoods, and Portland (which is where were are now).
Thanks for reading. We appreciate the love.
