Sunday, Sep 6:
I left us off in El Paso, TX. After a much needed night of rest, we rolled out of bed pretty late. David went for a run and I managed to convince myself to do some yoga (he’s much more disciplined than I am). Then we may or may not have taken a nap. Once we rolled out of bed for the second time, we decided we needed to get out and actually see El Paso. We ended up driving along the border of Mexico which was nuts. It’s amazing that the most dangerous cities in the world is separated from one of the safest by a single fence.
That evening I had my second mini session of tour with a girl named Elle and her fiance Chris at the old railroad station. We ended up having the police called on us by the railroad workers but he was super nice and ended up telling us all this information about El Paso vs. Juarez and then sent us on our merry way.
We met up with Ross for some local El Paso Mexican food and then we went home and he showed us a little taste of this famous P90X stuff we keep hearing about. Basically, we got tired just by watching it and crashed out soon after.
Monday, Sep 7:
We got up around 4:30 am and hit the road around 5 to head toward the Grand Canyon. We took the scenic route and discovered New Mexico is gorgggggeous. We stopped at scenic overlooks and attempted (and failed) to find some good coffee. We crossed into Arizona and had an AMAZING breakfast at a local diner in Alpine.
Eventually we made our way to the GC in time for the sunset. It’s amazing how you always forget just how huge and breathtaking the view is, no matter how many times you’ve been there.
David and I rented a spot for the evening and actually pitched our first tent ever! We roasted hot dogs and drank some Shiner to think of home. We topped the evening off with some guitar and wine and crashed out around… get ready for it…. 9:30pm!! Amazing.
Tuesday Sep 8:
We slept a good solid 10-11 hours and then tore down camp and headed back to the canyon. We hiked down from the Grandview for about an hour or so… I highly recommend hiking into the canyon… it’s absolutely unreal.
Somehow, we made our way back up and grabbed a shower before hitting the road once again, this time for California (finally). I love long drives not only for the scenery and the music, but for the conversation. I think it’s been really wonderful for David and I to get out of our little world and just go, together.
Anyway, last night we got to get our first In-N-Out burger of the trip (mmm my taste buds missed it so) and then made our way to Thousand Oaks. David has a show here tomorrow that I got through my friend Bailey. I met Bailey at Cal Lutheran University while I was a roadie for Invisible Children in Spring 08. We crashed with her and Rachel, who I also met back then so it was fun going down memory lane for a bit.
Whew.. Okay, I’m done. I promise to never go this long without blogging. Props to you who actually read what was going on! :)
